“Exploring Deep Mie with Rika!” is a project that provides touristic information about Mie Prefecture worldwide with our navigator Rika who is from Mie.
We will visit touristic places or shops in Mie to publish our movie contents. And we will give our original sticker to those who helped us for shooting videos.
We have been thinking to put an illustrated Rika’s character on the sticker. And finally, it has been designed.
This time, let us introduce our original character before we start our YouTube program.
To create an original character
The trigger is our crowd funding project
We have already decided to make Rika characterized and put it on our sticker. But we still have time to visit Mie.
However, we started to design the character. Why?
That’s because of Rika’s first crowd funding project for our program.

Tomoko Tsukui : An Eraser Stamp Artist
If we prepare those items, we need a designer.
The character must be “kawaii”.
Then, a well known eraser stamp artist, Tomoko Tsukui helped us and design the character.
Eraser stamp artist.
From the age of 15, Tomoko began carving stamps out of erasers and producing prints as a hobby.
She began producing order-made stamps carved from erasers and marketed under the brand name “Shokado” in 2003.津久井 智子氏ウェブサイト( https://tsukuitomoko.com/ )より引用
Television appearances and the publication of her first book「消しゴムはんこ。(Eraser Stamp.)」 in 2005 led to further media exposure and to hands-on workshops, talk events, and public demonstrations that drew attention to the creative possibilities of eraser stamp art.

We contacted Ms. Tsukui and had an online meeting.
The meeting was held during the state of emergency. So we used Zoom app and talked each other.
This was the first time Rika met Ms. Tsukui.
However, they got along smoothly.
Rika told her idea about the character verbally, then Ms. Tsukui draw then and there.
She showed her rough design through the monitor.
What a performance! She shaped Rika’s idea as an illustration so quickly.
Rika was so impressed and she shouted “Kawaii!!!”.
We discussed the design images. And a few days later…
We’ve got a report from Ms. Tsukui. She said “it’s done.”
Here is our character, made of eraser stamp.
Ms. Tsukui curved the character and stamped it with colouful inks.
She wears backpack and her symbolic item flute on her shoulder.
And her loving cat Hapi-chan is on her back.
Suzuka Mountains are also seen on background and a symbol of Shinto, TORII is on the top of mountain.
So finally, we’ve got our original character.
We are looking forward to delivering our character stickers to all the places of Mie Prefecture.
You can also wait for it.
